Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI) which block the production of acid by the stomach. Proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome which are all caused by stomach acid. Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole, like other proton-pump inhibitors, blocks the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this allows the stomach and esophagus to heal.
Active ingredient: Omeprazole magnesium
Other Ingredients: Glyceral Monostearate, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Hypromellose, Iron.

Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole is used for treating acid-induced inflammation and ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. It also is used in combination with antibiotics for eradicating H. pylori infection of the stomach.

Take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole is usually taken before a meal. Do not crush, chew, or break the over-the-counter Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole tablets. Swallow them whole. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.

STORAGE
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

Before taking Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole, tell your doctor if you have ever had any type of liver disease. You may not be able to take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring. Do not use Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole without first talking to your healthcare provider if you have:

• trouble or pain with swallowing;
• vomiting blood;
• bloody or black stools;
• had heartburn for over 3 months;
• heartburn with sweating, lightheadedness, dizziness, chest, shoulder, neck, jaw, or arm pain;
• frequent chest pain;
• heartburn with wheezing;
• unexplained weight loss;
• nausea or vomiting; or
• stomach pain.

Your doctor should evaluate your condition before taking over-the-counter Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole if you have any of the conditions listed above.
Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole passes into breast milk. Do not take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless your doctor directs otherwise.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, seizures, shortness of breath, and decreased body temperature.

If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole and seek emergency medical attention. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole and talk to your doctor if you experience:

• drowsiness, dizziness, or headache;
• diarrhea, increased gas, or bloating; or
• itching.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Before taking Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
• warfarin (Coumadin);
• digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps);
• a medicine for insomnia or anxiety such as diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), temazepam (Restoril), clorazepate (Tranxene), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), and others;
• cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune);
• phenytoin (Dilantin);
• theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theochron, Theolair, Elixophyllin, Slo-Phyllin, others);
• itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral);
• ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen); or
• iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others).

You may not be able to take Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.
Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests before and during treatment to check your response to Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole. Do not let anyone else take your Generic Prilosec - Omeprazole.
